Francophone Candidates

IRCC Issues 1,000 Invitations for Francophone Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw

In its quest to deepen linguistic diversity in Canada, Francophone candidates remain a key focus for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, as demonstrated in the latest Express Entry draw. On 10th October 2024, IRCC conducted round #318, where it issued invitations to apply for permanent residency to 1,000 Francophone candidates. This is yet another big stride toward Canada’s promise of attracting French-speaking talent. A Targeted Draw for Francophone Candidates and Excellence The cut-off score of 444 points, draw shows that IRCC continues with its customised approach toward linguistic and cultural diversity. In fact, this score is two points lower than the previous Francophone-specific draw on September 13, 2024, where an increasing trend in such opportunities for prospective French-speaking migrants who want to make Canada their home was recorded. The tie-breaker date for this draw has been set at 18:56:32 UTC on September 27, 2024. It, therefore, gives an upper hand to the candidates because their profiles can be submitted beforehand. Get a Free Assessment Strengthening Canada’s Francophone Communities This targeted draw is therefore in complete agreement with the more general strategy that has characterised Canada in improving its Francophone minority communities outside Quebec. The federal government has, over time, demonstrated a clear preference for skilled Francophone immigrants as these entrants will be able to enhance the nation’s bilingual character and contribute to the social and economic fabric of the country. As of 2024 to date, IRCC has invited 87,987 applicants under Express Entry. Among them, 21,400 are Francophone applicants. This is a very high percentage of this year’s overall invitations and proves the government commitment to satisfying Canada’s linguistic needs for the third time in a row. Express Entry: A Growing Pool of Talent As of 9th October 2024, the Express Entry pool hosted a total of 209,317 profiles, which is a very broad and diverse pool of interested skilled workers contributing to the economy of Canada. A growing number of such talent pools represents how competitive the express entry system has become as better chances of getting those strong profiles with high Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Why Should Francophones Act Now? It also places French-speaking applicants at a good position in the state’s increasing focus on foreign talent being Francophone. In fact, the increased interest of the state in promoting Francophone immigration is another promising indicator for those in search of easier and more direct pathways to permanent residency. The assurance of more targeted opportunities to help aspiring candidates who possess French language proficiency, like this one, also makes it just the right time to enter or update their Express Entry profiles. A Win for Linguistic Diversity The draw held on 10 October 2024, targeting Francophone applicants, shows that Canada is committed to duality in languages, one of the basic values that make Canada unique as an immigrants’ destination in the world. By including French-speaking candidates, Canada again confirms its bilingual identity while offering newcomers an opportunity to succeed in a lively and multicultural society.   If you want to know more details about “IRCC Issues 1,000 Invitations for Francophone Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw“ you can contact one of our immigration specialists at  Gunness & Associates.   Please Book an Appointment with a Member of Our Assessment Team! Ottawa Invites 1,613 PNP Candidates in the New Express Entry Draw

On 7 October 2024, Ottawa invites Provincial Nominee Program applicants as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada carried out its latest draw from the Express Entry pool, continuing the country’s push to host more skilled immigrants. In the most eagerly anticipated round thus far, IRCC issued 1,613 Invitations to Apply directly to PNP candidates in the Express Entry pool, marking the ninth of the year targeted at PNP. Ottawa Invites: A Closer Look at the Numbers For the most part, candidates needed to have at least 743 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System for an Express Entry draw in round #316. This was 11 points higher than the last PNP-targeted draw on September 9, 2024. With competition ratcheting up and the pool getting larger, it was time for all the waiting and patient ones to get their chance by meeting that cut-off. Tie-break rule of this draw was set for 22 March 2024, 18:36:54 UTC, which meant that all candidates with the lowest qualification score for CRS had to have their submissions be before the tied timestamp. Get a Free Express Entry Assessment What Does This Means for Express Entry Candidates? As of 7 October, 2024, there are 209,892 registered profiles in the Express Entry pool, many of whom are hopeful candidates awaiting their turn. It is evident through the continued efforts of Canada to bring in international talent under the Express Entry system, particularly through draws targeting the PNP by allowing provinces to select candidates with the specific skills in local labor markets. The country has thus far issued a total of 86,487 invitations through 38 Express Entry draws issued this year, which is an indication of its strong commitment to using immigration as a tool to address labor shortages and expedite economic growth. Why PNP Candidates Have an Edge in Express Entry? It is therefore an integral part of the strategy of Canada’s immigration wherein the provinces and territories are allowed to nominate people possessing the skills, education, and work experience that will help contribute to the economy of that region. Through targeting PNP candidates, Canada has made sure that its system of immigration would address the labor needs of the different parts of the country. It simply means that nominated PNP candidates would receive such an ITA that would be an important step toward permanent residence in Canada, and once nominated, they would acquire 600 additional CRS points that would increase the possibility of receiving such an ITA in the future draws. Canada Start-Up Visa

Canada expands work opportunities for Canada Start-Up Visa candidates

Until October 3, 2024, the Government of Canada issued a turnaround that only revamped its Canada Start-Up Visa program. It has rejuvenated the existing provision by giving open work permits to the applicants for the Start-Up Visa which makes them less stringent about securing income while still growing their businesses. This development benefits the appeal of the program because Canada becomes a more appealing destination for the international entrepreneur. What Does the New Open Work Permit Mean for Canada Start-Up Visa Candidates? Previous to the policy, applicants under the Start-Up Visa stream could only attain closed work permits, which would only allow them the scope of working only under their personal start-up ventures. The three-year open work permit in the present policy offers the following huge advantages: Flexibility: Candidates can work for nearly any employer in Canada. They can gain extra money, foreign work experience or build their start-up businesses. Business Growth: Entrepreneurs can focus on the growth of the start-up venture and secure their financial future. Such a policy change supports the aim of Canada to attract innovative entrepreneurs towards transition to Canada and to building a base of sustainable success over time. Start Your Canadian Journey Now!   Immediate Family Members Also Benefit Another benefit granted to immediate family members of the applicants for the Start-Up Visa is that spouses of entrepreneurs can apply to obtain open work permits. They are therefore empowered to work towards family income or pursue their careers in Canada. Furthermore, children of the holder of the Start-Up Visa are also authorized to make applications for study permits. This allows them to access better education solutions from Canada. Policy For New Open Work Permit With this policy of the new open work permit, it is a win-win for entrepreneurs and the economy of Canada because more opportunities will be available to work in Canada with such security of assurance to entrepreneurs that they will have more resources and stability. From the economic perspective, this policy develops the environment and encourages innovation, entrepreneurship, and business development, hence making Canada the best destination for international talent globally. This will give applicants a chance to weigh up the challenges of undertaking a start-up against the freedom of being able to work in various sectors to bring in more income-earning opportunities. With the support of this policy, most Start-Up Visa applicants will easily settle in Canada and acquire financial stability while gaining professional experience. How to Apply for an Open Work Permit? Eligible applicants must meet all of the basic eligibility criteria under the Start-Up Visa program and have a Letter of Support from a designated Canadian organization. Once cleared, they are free to take up any job in the country of choice and, therefore, balance their work and business life most effectively. Why Choose Canada for Your Start-Up? Canada is always trying to improve innovation and entrepreneurship in a wide range, from the initiatives of Start-Up Visa. The country offers: Access to funding, incubators, and accelerators is an example of a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem. A diverse and skilled labor force is also available for entrepreneurs, drawn from all sectors. It has a high quality of life. Canada always ranks among those countries that boast of a very high quality of life. This makes it such an attractive place to reside, work, and even grow a business. Permanent residency: The Start-Up Visa does not only allow the applicants to launch their businesses but also facilitates direct entrance into the country toward permanent citizenship of Canada. A New Era for Entrepreneurs in Canada It will be in the issue of open work permits to the Start-Up Visa applicants where a new chapter in immigration and business begins for Canada. This is a policy where international entrepreneurs succeed in their quest to start up while being assimilated into the Canadian economy and society. support program

Manitoba launched a support program for temporary foreign workers awaiting permanent residency

In the greatest step toward retaining the skilled talent, Manitoba has implemented a new support program that is going to be offered to Temporary Foreign Workers lined up in the queue of permanent residence. Following the roll-out on September 18, it now enables Temporary Foreign Workers to apply for letters of support and thus allow them to extend their work permits based on the processing of applications for Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. This historic decision is a turnaround for thousands of workers who already contributed to the economy of this province, aspire to continue on the road towards gaining their Canadian citizenship, and perhaps are actually aiming to begin a new life here. It will target Manitoba’s labor shortages as its ultimate objective in ensuring that businesses now access the talented capacity needed across all industries. Why is Manitoba’s New Support Program Crucial? Manitoba has emerged as one of the emerging hot spots for immigrants wanting to begin their lives anew and contribute to Canada’s burgeoning economy. Additionally, a good deal of the TFWs find themselves in limbo, working legally because their applications for permanent residency are being processed. Hence, with the help of the Federal Government, Manitoba implemented a new online application system, benefitting about 6,700 eligible TFWs. This will now allow workers to apply for letters of support, thereby making it possible to extend work permits without hassle, and employed and contributing to an economy that thrives in Manitoba. Manitoba Minister of Labour and Immigration Malaya Marcelino said, “Temporary Foreign Workers have played an integral part in the economy of Manitoba, and it is important that we support them through some of the processes involved in making their permanent residency journey more seamless. This program assists those individuals to continue working while awaiting decisions on their permanent residency, helping Manitoba to address key labor gaps.” Get a Free Assessment Key Benefits for Temporary Foreign Workers This program is a huge relief to TFWs, most of whom would have grown anxious about their status while waiting to be imputed as permanent residents under the MPNP. Among the many advantages are the following: Work Permit Extensions: TFWs can also apply for a letter of support to have the work permits extended and continue legally working in Manitoba. Retain Skilled Workers: With the labor shortage in many sectors remaining ongoing, Manitoba takes an aggressive step to retain these skilled workers who are going to be the beneficiaries for Manitoba’s economic growth. Streamlined process: The program provides an easy streamlined online application process where now the eligible workers can get their extensions more easily and quickly. Who is Eligible? The Manitoba provincial government has extended this benefit to the maximum of 6,700 TFWs who had been placed on permanent residency waiting lists under the MPNP. Eligibility will be determined by their current work permit status and previous performance history in the MPNP. For the working people of Manitoba, it is the continuation of their contribution to the local economy without a stop in it. For businesses, this will be continued access to more skilled and experienced labor; thus, businesses will be operating at full capacities in key sectors. A Win for Both Workers and Employers This program is more than just an initiative for the foreign workers; it’s a strategy lined up for long-term economic stability of Manitoba. For example, by ensuring that TFWs can retain employment while waiting for their residency decisions, the province will not lose its skilled labor force or experience key shortages in labor in the medicine, construction, or agriculture industries. Support program For the employers, this development is a guarantee of having a stable workforce, besides being a reliable one, as it proves to be a stringent requirement in industries where skilled labor is scarcer than anywhere else. It is hence due to TFWs that Manitoba productivity is at such exceptionally high levels, and it’s against this background that this program really underlines the importance of the same to this province. What This Means for Manitoba’s Future? This new support program is just one of several initiatives aimed at making Manitoba a destination for global talent. With immigration being a critical component of the province’s growth strategy, this initiative will help Manitoba strengthen its workforce, stabilize its economy, and continue building on its legacy as one of Canada’s most immigrant-friendly regions. Canadian provinces minimum wages

Four Canadian provinces minimum wages are set to rise on October 1, 2024

As living costs continue to rise through Canada, four provinces have taken it another step higher in helping workers by compelling an increase in Canadian provinces minimum wages come October 1, 2024. New minimum rates of wage across the provinces also raise new minimum rates to reflect this commitment to fair compensation. This movement across all provinces is a yearly review, but it does portray an attempt toward economic fairness in helping out workers within many industries across Canada. Ontario Leads with the Highest Wage Increase Ontario will also witness the largest increase. The minimum hourly wage will increase to $17.20 an hour on October 1, 2024. This is another historic step towards protecting low-income workers from the yoke of inflationary pressure when prices are going up across the board. “The changes better balance the needs of Ontario’s workforce with the broader economic factors at play,” said the province in a release. Other Provinces Follow Suit: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island While all the talk has been about the change in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island are actually updating their general minimum wage levels. Here are the new rates: Manitoba: The minimum wage will now rise to $15.80 per hour, supposedly to give a little break to the worker as prices on what he uses daily on food, housing, and transportation continue to be driven upwards instead of down. Saskatchewan: Effective October 1, 2024, the minimum rate shall increase to at least $15.00 per hour from last year. This goes hand-in-hand with another push towards wages that resonate and correspond well with current economic reality and the support of local economies and businesses. Prince Edward Island: It will raise the minimum wage to $16.00 per hour; this will be a big increase. Hopefully, it will aim at bridging the gap in the wage for workers and improving the quality of living in that region. Impact of Canadian Provinces Minimum Wages Increase on Workers and Businesses These minimum wages are going to save the lives of millions of workers working through Canada. Because their earnings are increased, employees can afford better essential goods and services. Business challenges might be encountered because of abrupt changes in the new wage rates, but it is also viewed as a step towards improving employee satisfaction and retention. How Businesses Can Prepare for Wage Increases? The increase in wages presents both challenges and opportunities for businesses operating in these provinces. Employers will have to adjust their payroll expenses, but the more motivated and financially stable workers may also be beneficial to them. Here are a few steps to which businesses can adapt: Review Budgets: Review the overall financial resources of the company to ascertain if there is enough money to allow the company to sustain a higher wage structure. Workforce efficiency: Spend more on training and productivity improvements so all your workforce can be maximized. Engage employees: support a work environment that enables the retention of core competencies and high overall job satisfaction. A Nationwide Trend Toward Wage Fairness Such is seen in the wider reflection across the country, where various provinces exert efforts to make salaries truly able to support today’s workforce. These are essential in trying to achieve economic equality and keep the wage rate on the same plane as increasing cost of living. What Does This Mean for Canada Workers? To workers from these provinces, wage increases spell much more than a good pay-increase occasion; rather, they spell a better hope of living to meet day-to-day expenses, build up for the future, and gain security of employment. To young adults entering the labor force, to families struggling to meet both ends, the new wage rates will be something concrete in the pursuit of quality and beneficial living. A Step Toward Economic Balance In the months leading up to October 1, 2024, workers and employers will be doing what is necessary to prepare for these changes to their wages. Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island wage increases are important steps towards a balanced economy that pays workers fairly. These changes care for the day-to-day financial operations but also impact long-term health and resiliency within the Canadian economy.
