On July 11, 2024, Ontario made significant strides in addressing its skilled labor needs by inviting 1,277 candidates under the Skilled Trades Stream of the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP). This targeted draw focused on candidates working in 46 National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes, with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores ranging from 408 to 435. This initiative is part of Ontario’s ongoing efforts to attract skilled tradespeople who can contribute to the province’s economy and community. The draw on July 11 was part of a broader strategy by Ontario to meet its labor market needs through the OINP. Since July 11, 2023, Ontario has been diligently assessing candidates who have created profiles in the Express Entry system. Ontario continues to open doors for skilled immigrants with its latest draws under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Ontario extended invitations to 110 candidates under the PhD Graduate Streams in a separate draw. Concurrently On July 9, 2024, the province also issued a total of 1,556 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a general draw for the Master’s Graduate stream, marking a significant opportunity for eligible candidates.  Details of the New Draws In the recent Master’s Graduate stream draw, applicants with a minimum score of 54 points were invited to apply, reflecting a slight increase from the previous draw. Effective July 1, 2024, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has announced significant updates to its Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream. This update, spearheaded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), aims to expand the eligibility list, making it more inclusive of various occupations, particularly those outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Expanded Occupation List Outside the GTA In a move to address labor shortages and respond to feedback from consultations held in the fall of 2023, the OINP has included several new occupations in the eligibility list for positions outside the GTA. The new additions are: Shippers and Receivers: Key roles in logistics and supply chain management, ensuring the smooth movement of goods. Railway Yard Maintenance Workers: Essential for maintaining the safety and efficiency of railway operations. Aquaculture Laborers: Vital for supporting Ontario’s growing aquaculture industry, ensuring sustainable fish farming practices. One notable addition to the eligibility list is the occupation of “Other Trades Helpers and Laborers.” This category has been included for positions both inside and outside the GTA, reflecting the province’s broader strategy to address skilled labor shortages across various regions. The changes to the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream were significantly influenced by community and stakeholder consultations held in the fall of 2023. The consultations provided valuable insights and feedback, which have now been integrated into the program to better meet the needs of employers and job seekers alike. Impact on Existing Applications It’s important to note that these updates do not impact existing applications. Those who have already submitted their applications under the previous criteria will continue to be processed without any changes to their status.
