Agriculture Workforce

Saskatchewan Launches New Immigration Streams to Boost Agriculture Workforce and Strengthen Healthcare

August 30, 2024 – The decision of the Government of Saskatchewan is wise to address existing acute shortages in the agriculture workforce by establishing two new talent subcategories within the SINP. Such pathways serve to foster two sectors of focus in the province, agriculture and healthcare, in addition to enhancing the creation of sustainable employment opportunities across the province for skilled migrants from various parts of the world. Tackling Labor Shortages in the Agriculture Workforce with Strategic Immigration Pathways Saskatchewan has a prosperous economy and similar to many places it struggles to generate an adequate supply of workers for its demand industries. The new streams of immigration under the SINP are designed to meet these challenges and fulfill the employer’s need for international talent. These initiatives also go a long way in meeting some of the current skill shortages and at the same time promoting the province of Saskatchewan as an ideal place for the immigration of human capital. Migrate to Canada Agriculture Talent Pathway: Cultivating Growth and Innovation The Agriculture Talent Pathway scheme is a crucial intervention designed to open up opportunities for local producers to obtain not only the labor force but the outstanding talent that will spur the industry forward. With agriculture being a cornerstone of Saskatchewan’s economy, this pathway is set to: Support Food Security: By attracting skilled labor, the pathway establishes the producer countries with the workforce density needed for increased food production hence the food security both locally and internationally. Enhance Export Value: This has an implication of increased export of quality products, apart from increased efficiency through professional workmanship. Leverage Agricultural Innovations: As for the skills, it is also stated that the pathway targets talents with new methods and tools that can be introduced in Saskatchewan’s agriculture field in order to keep the leadership of the sector in the province. Health Talent Pathway: Aligning with the Health Human Resources Action Plan Similarly, the Health Talent Pathway aims at strengthening Saskatchewan’s health care workforce which in turn serves the agenda of the Health Human Resources HHR action plan. By streamlining the recruitment process within the SINP, this pathway aims to: Streamline Healthcare Recruitment: It is also agreed that a coordinated approach results in periodically limiting the difficulties that healthcare employers face while finding highly skilled immigration health professionals to the workforce. Address Critical Healthcare Gaps: Consequently, the pathway is designed to target specific roles in which shortages are most problematic so as to ensure that the healthcare system can continue to deliver quality service to the residents of Saskatchewan. Support a Resilient Healthcare System: Since the population is aging and the demand for healthcare services rises, the pathway helps to attract health professionals to build a more sustainable and flexible healthcare system. A win-win for Saskatchewan and immigrants These new immigration opportunities self-sustain Saskatchewan and benefit those interested in immigration to the region. The pathways also help employers to get a pool of scarce skilled labor easily, which is a plus when it comes to growth and sustainability. This is a perfect province of destination for immigrants because it provides them with a good groundwork for work, employment, and prospects to build a better future for the province of Saskatchewan. Why Saskatchewan? An essential factor is the active immigrant policy of the province of Saskatchewan, which pays special attention to building well-developed and stable communities and, therefore, is interested in attracting competent personnel. The concentration of the province on the strategic sectors, including agriculture and healthcare as the key sectors does not only respond to the present-day issues of labor market shortage but also creates a foundation for future sustainable economic development. study permit allocation

Saskatchewan’s study permit allocation increases by 25.4% for next school year

Saskatchewan’s study permit allocation grew by 25.4 percent to 15,054 in April. It is expected to result in around 7,200 study permits for international students in the upcoming year. Advanced Education Minister Gordon Wyant stated that international students are vital for economic growth and labor market needs.  IRCC has also added a new requirement for provincial attestation letters (PALs), which require most new post-secondary international students at the college or undergraduate level to submit a PAL along with a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary institution when applying for an international study permit. Saskatchewan is one of the first provinces to implement an automated system to facilitate study permit applications from international students in 2024. To date, the Ministry of Advanced Education has successfully processed over 1,200 PALs from 11 different postsecondary institutions. The ministry successfully launched an automated PAL system quickly using MyCreds, a national information technology platform for official academic documents that already collaborates with provincial education and universities.
