Plan

IRCC introduced the 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan

On November 1, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released details on the Government of Canada’s 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan.  According to the new plan, the Government plans to accept 465,000 new permanent residents in 2023. In addition, Canada will welcome 485,000 newcomers in 2024 and 500,000 in 2025. In 2021, Canada set a new record by accepting over 405,000 immigrants in one year.  This number is predicted to rise close to 432,000 this year. The proposed strategy would bring in more immigrants to help businesses with staffing shortages, as well as to attract individuals with the skills required for specific industries such as health care, skilled trades, manufacturing, and technology to address the potential challenges Canada may face economically and socially in the coming years.   Immigration Class 2023 2024 2025 Economic 2,66,210 2,81,135 3,01,250 Family  1,06,500 114000 1,18,000 refugees 76,305 76,115 72,750 Humanitarian 15,985 13,750 8000 Total 4,65,000 4,85,000 500,000   Highlights of the levels plan include: A long-term focus on economic growth, with just over 60% of admissions in the economic class by 2025. using new features in the Express Entry system to welcome newcomers with the necessary skills and qualifications in sectors facing severe labor shortages, like healthcare, manufacturing, building trades, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) increasing regional initiatives to meet specific regional labor market needs, such as the Provincial Nominee Program, the Atlantic Immigration Program, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot,  speeding up the process of reuniting families,  ensuring that at least 4.4% of new permanent residents outside of Quebec are Francophones,  and supporting international crises by offering refuge to those being persecuted, such as by expanding the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot.   Increasing regional initiatives to meet specific regional labor market needs, such as the Provincial Nominee Program, the Atlantic Immigration Program, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, speeding up the process of reuniting families, ensuring that at least 4.4% of new permanent residents outside of Quebec are Francophones, and supporting international crises by offering refuge to those being persecuted, such as by expanding the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot. This strategy builds on existing efforts to improve our immigration system and disperse the advantages of immigration to communities across the nation, particularly fostering the vitality of Francophone places outside of Quebec. It places a special priority on regional immigration. Regional economic immigration initiatives like the Provincial Nominee Program are becoming more important for the long-term development of our nation. So that we may continue to assist provinces and territories in bringing the qualified newcomers they require to meet the labor shortage and demographic constraints in their regions, this year’s strategy includes a year-over-year increase. Together with IRCC, a number of other government partners and ministries develop a plan for balanced immigration levels. Several provincial immigration ministers have criticized the current immigration plan for not ensuring that enough space is made out for Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Additionally, their arguments are better suited to the introduction of talented immigrants to Canada in order to fill jobs and strengthen the country’s labor force. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser intends to speak with provinces to better understand their requirements in the labor market.   To find out more details about the “2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan”, you can contact one of our immigration specialists at  Gunness & Associates.   Tel: (416) 604-2669  Email: info@immigrationmatters.info Gunness & Associates has helped thousands of people successfully immigrate to Canada with their families. Canada has the largest immigrant

Canada has the largest immigrant share of the population in over 150 years

Canada has the largest immigrant share of the population in over 150 years On October 26, 2022, Statistics Canada published the sixth round of the Census data report, announcing that immigrants made up almost a fourth of the Canadian population, which is the largest share in over 150 years.    Statistics show that as of 2021, 8.3 million people in Canada were landed immigrants or permanent residents, which is about 23% of the population.    This number has increased since the Confederation and is currently the highest among all G7 countries. As the Canadian population ages and fertility levels are below the population replacement level, immigration becomes Canada’s primary driver for population growth.   The highest percentage of immigrants among the G7 In 2021, about a quarter (23%) of the population, or more than 8.3 million people, were or had ever been landed immigrants or permanent residents in Canada, according to the report. This was the highest percentage among the G7 and the biggest percentage since the Confederation, breaking the previous record of 22.3% set in 1921.   Four-fifths of the increase in the labor force from 2016 to 2021 was due to immigration. In the same period, the number of people living in private households in Canada increased by 5.4%, with new or recent immigrants contributing 71.1% of that rise. The survey also predicts that, if current trends hold, immigrants might make up as much as 29.1% of Canada’s population by 2041.   In Canada, more than half of recent immigrants were accepted under the economic category. According to StatsCan, little over one-third (34.5%) of these 748,120 economic immigrants were chosen through skilled worker programs, and another third (33.6%) were chosen through the Provincial Nominee Program.   To find out more details about “Canada has the Largest immigrant share of the population”, you can contact one of our immigration specialists at  Gunness & Associates.   Tel: (416) 604-2669  Email: info@immigrationmatters.info Gunness & Associates has helped thousands of people successfully immigrate to Canada with their families. TR2PR pathway

Canada will not repeat TR2PR pathway draws

Canada will not repeat TR2PR pathway draws after the recent announcement of immigration levels, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), answered questions about the TR to PR pathway. In April 2022, Canada announced a new pathway, enabling existing temporary residents and workers to convert to permanent residents.  The immigration minister stated that the current immigration levels plan did not include the TR to PR pathway repeating, which was designed to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. TR to PR was designed to help Canada reach its immigration goals and support its economic recovery.    TR2PR Pathway Canada announced the TR to PR Pathway in April 2021. The program allowed essential workers and international graduates in any field to apply for Canadian permanent residence. IRCC received over 80,000 applications before closing the program in November 2021. This prevented many foreign workers in Canada from staying permanently. Canada plans to extend post-graduation work permits, but details are lacking. Canada is trying to meet 2022 and 2023 immigration targets. Foreign skilled workers, temporary workers, and international students should have a new Canada TR to PR pathway. Canada’s Immigration Levels 2022-2024 plan seeks 1.3 million permanent residents. IRCC releases a new Immigration Levels Strategy each year to guide its operations. Canada’s immigration system follows its level plan. It records Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial immigration targets. IRCC then adjusts operations to attract, settle, integrate, and retain new visitors.   To find out more details about “Canada will not repeat TR2PR pathway draws in 2022”, you can contact one of our immigration specialists at  Gunness & Associates.   Tel: (416) 604-2669  Email: info@immigrationmatters.info Gunness & Associates has helped thousands of people successfully immigrate to Canada with their families.
