Express Entry categories

IRCC proposed new Express Entry categories

IRCC proposed new Express Entry categories On January 12, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted public consultations with stakeholders to adjust the Express Entry application management system in response to Canada’s economic needs and labor shortages.    To accomplish this goal, the department has crafted Express Entry categories that prioritize specific credentials such as educational background, work experience, and understanding of official languages over the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.    IRCC is actively seeking public input regarding selection priorities for immigration that could alleviate chronic economic and labor force shortages. All contributions must be submitted by January 16, 2023, to be considered.    Through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, or the Federal Skilled Trades Program, skilled workers may apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry system.   Possible Express Entry Categories The IRCC is considering adding a category for work experience in specific industries or occupations that have a chronic labor shortage. During the consultation process, the IRCC asked that respondents identify areas of the labor market where there are chronic shortages of workers and make recommendations for how immigration can complement Canada’s workforce force.   The most popular occupations invited to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry between 2019 and 2021 were: food service supervisors. administrative assistants. financial auditors and accountants. retail sales supervisors. software engineers and designers. professional occupations in advertising, marketing, and public relations cooks. computer programmers and interactive media developers. information systems analysts and consultants. user support technicians. restaurant and food service managers. administrative officers.   Getting international graduates to permanent residence  According to the IRCC, an Express Entry selection category for international student graduates could more effectively address critical shortages. For example, graduates from Designated Learning Institutions with a degree or diploma in a field that is in demand could be included in a new Express Entry category.   Since they are proficient in at least one official language, hold Canadian academic qualifications, and have worked in Canada, international student graduates are ideal candidates for permanent economic immigration, according to the IRCC  they will be able to support Canada’s economy for many years to come.   Converting temporary foreign workers to permanent residents.  Express Entry could respond more quickly to continuing economic demands if it included a selection category for transferring talented temporary foreign workers, similar to how it does with international students. Temporary workers are excellent candidates for permanent residency because they might find employment in their fields. Express Entry draws spring 2023

The Canadian Government targeted Express Entry draws spring 2023

The Canadian Government started targeting Express Entry draws spring 2023. Express Entry’s targeted draws are expected to be released in spring 2023 to provide greater flexibility to meet changing economic objectives and government priorities. The Canadian Government aims to contribute substantially to sustainable long-term development and economic growth by selecting individuals with specific talents and expertise.    Express Entry draws spring 2023 Divisions With yet-to-be-determined categories, the divisions and classifications will evolve as the government works with provincial and territorial partners and solicits feedback from key stakeholders. The IRCC suggests that draws will be based on factors like language proficiency, education, or work experience in a particular occupation even if specific categories have not yet been created.   Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, has frequently said that regional targeting will also be used for drawings. Fraser defended his commitment to encouraging regional immigration in front of the Standing Committee on Immigration and Citizenship on November 29.   Fraser stated projects like the Atlantic Immigration Program, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, and “new flexibilities in the Express Entry system that allow us to do targeted draws not just by region, but also by the sector in which those regions have the highest labor market needs.” He added, “You will probably notice that there is a significant increase in the regionalization of immigration numbers.”   Immigration Targets 2023 – 2025 The most recent immigration plan supports immigration as a technique to assist deal with labor shortages. Additionally, it seeks to draw talent for vital fields like healthcare, skilled professions, manufacturing, and technology. In order to solve these shortages and fill in-demand occupations in the industries with the highest demand, Express Entry will be a crucial tool. The annual flow of new immigrants to Canada will increase over the next three years. In 2023, Canada plans to bring in 465,000 new immigrants. In 2024, the target will increase to 485,000 new immigrants. Additionally, it will increase to 500,000 additional immigrants in 2025. The new strategy also seeks to expand regional initiatives like the Provincial Nominee Program, the Atlantic Immigration Program, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot to address specific local labor market demands.   Why is Express Entry changing? Bill C-19, an omnibus bill that contained the implementation of targeted Express Entry draws, was passed by Canada in June 2022. Previously, the IRCC could only hold drawings for certain programs or change the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. For instance, the IRCC only conducted draws for the PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in 2021. IRCC may now invite candidates based on an economic objective following the passage of C-19. For example, Canada might conduct a draw for candidates who have proven proficiency in French. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry Draw awards additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points to candidates with strong French language skills, even if French is their second language. As of recent updates, candidates who achieve NCLC 7 or higher in all four language abilities (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) can earn up to 50 additional CRS points.  This provides a significant advantage in receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
